Moalboal is one of most popular diving locations in Cebu Island. It’s main underwater attraction is the Sardine Run – where you can dive alongside large shoals of several million sardines that have made Moalboal it’s permanent home.

Moalboal has around 20 beautiful and easily accessible dive sites

All the dive sites around Moalboal are easily accessible by boat or some even from shore. The longest boat ride from our dive shop to dive site is around 20 minutes.

Maximum depths of Moalboal’s dive sites range from 5m / 15 feet to around 45 meters /150 feet, making them ideal for both introductory and more advanced training dives. The topography is mainly a “reef wall” with a gentle slope on shallower depths.

Water temperature ranges from 26°C / 79°F during winter months (January to May) to 30°C / 86°F during summer months (June to November). You can experience great visibility all year round, ranging from around 15 meters / 35 feet to 25 meters / 80 feet depending on the weather.

Dive sites.

The majority of dive sites around Moalboal have a “reef wall” topography. With the exception of Pescador Island, they are located close to the shore enabling easy and short access by boat and from land. The most famous dive sites around Moalboal are:

Pescador Island

An island situated around 1 nautical mile from the shore. Renown for it’s soft coral formations and amazing topography. This is one of the most biodiverse dive sites around the Philippines, with hundreds of different and unique species of corals and marine creatures. Pescador Island also provides excellent opportunities to drift dive for experienced divers during stronger currents.

Sardines

The go to dive site for everyone visiting the Philippines. Schools of millions of sardines congregate close to the shore, providing one of the best diving experiences not only in the Philippines, but around the world. Sardines are here each and every day, all year round. Since they can usually be seen on the depths ranging from 10m/30ft to 18m/60ft they are accessible for all divers.

Tongo

Tongo is a marine sanctuary and a protected area with no mooring lines and with restricted local fishing. The tranquillity of this underwater habitat inhabits many sea turtles (Green Sea Turtles and Hawksbill Sea Turtle). The deeper reef is full of beautiful coral formations and is a home all sort of smaller creatures like nudibranchs, pipe fish, shrimps and crabs.

Lo-oc

Beautiful wall dive with a gardens of soft corals, many underwater caverns and variety of both corals and creatures. This dive sites is famous for many frogfish that inhabit the area.

Underwater life.

The highlight of diving in Moalboal is the opportunity to see large shoals of Sardines by the shore all year round. Besides this, there are many more creatures that can be found on the reefs of each dive site. Amongst them are: Frogfish, Nudibranchs, Lionfish, Morey eels, Pipefish, many different types of crabs and shrimps and beautiful anemones which provide homes for different kinds of anemone fish or commonly known as “Nemos”.
